Colorectal Neoplasms Clinical and Translational Research Group Xavier Bessa

The main strategic objective is to further our understanding of the pathogenesis of various neoplastic colorectal processes, as well as their prevention and treatment.

Our research focuses on identifying the factors relating to the development of metachronous neoplastic lesions, particularly advanced colorectal adenomes, to improve patient monitoring, study how the inflammatory response to surgery influences the oncological outcome, and identify disease progression biomarkers in patients with colorectal cancer.

Research lines

  • Inflammatory response to surgery and recurrence of colorectal cancer.
  • Prognostic recurrence factors in colorectal cancer.
  • Metabolism, surgery, and colorectal cancer.
  • Identification of factors related to the development of metachronous colorectal lesions.
  • Identification of epigenetic markers for colorectal cancer progression.
