The main functions of CEIm-Parc de Salut Mar (CEIm-PSMAR), regulated by current legislation and approved by the Board of Directors of Parc de Salut Mar, are as follows:
- To evaluate the suitability of the research protocols in relation to the objectives set, their scientific efficiency and the justification of the foreseeable risks and inconveniences, weighed against the benefits expected by both the subjects and/or society, in accordance with the regulations applicable in each case.
- To evaluate the suitability of the research team, taking into account their experience and research capacity to carry out the study, in accordance with the care obligations and commitments previously assumed with other research protocols.
- To evaluate the information that will be given to the subjects participating in the research or, failing that, to their legal representative, and to evaluate the way in which said information will be provided.
- To verify the compensation and treatment that will be offered to study subjects in the event of injury or death attributable to the study; and the compensation provided to cover the responsibilities of the promotor, researchers and centres where the study is conducted.
- To understand and evaluate the compensation that researchers and research subjects will receive for participating in the study.
- To monitor the studies from their initiation until the reception of the final report.
- To provide ethical and legal advice to researchers and other agents involved in biomedical research within the scope of the committee's activities.
