In June 2015, IMIM obtained the recognition of the European Commission HR Excellence in Research. This recognition implies that we adhere to the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. This entails reviewing some aspects of the management processes of the research group.
The selection process for a new director will begin this year and in the meantime Dr. Rafael de la Torre, director of the IMIM Neurosciences Research Program, will become acting director.
In November 2016, Dr. Joaquim Bellmunt Molins, an oncologist specializing in genitourinary cancer and one of the world leaders in bladder and kidney cancer, who will also be the Director of Research at the MAR Health Park (PSMAR) in Barcelona, joins IMIM as Director.
In 2018, the Research Integrity and Good Scientific Practice Committee (CIR-BPC) is created with the functions of developing strategies that promote IMIM research to adhere to the PRBB Code of Good Scientific Practice, ensure that IMIM research and research support staff are well trained in good scientific practice and implement the procedure to investigate possible cases of scientific malpractice.
MARGenomics, the new molecular and genomic analysis platform created to serve IMIM and Hospital del Mar research projects, as well as the scientific community in general, was presented this year. The platform integrates all the steps of the genomic analysis process with the integration of the current Biobank and Microarrays services. It is managed by the current IMIM Scientific-Technical Services management in collaboration with the management of the Pathology Anatomy Service of the Hospital del Mar. A human computational biology node has also been created within the MARGenomics platform.
On January 29, 2019, the General Secretariat for Science Policy Coordination of the Ministry of Science, Education and Universities approved the renewal of IMIM's accreditation as a Health Research Institute (IIS), which renewal takes effect from February 17, 2019 and until February 17, 2024.
In October 2019, Dr. Jordi Martínez will become acting director of IMIM while the selection process for a new director is underway.
