Resum en anglès

Despite the wide amount of literature on social and health benefits of urban gardens, very few studies have examined how rooftop gardens can contribute to participants' health and wellbeing. Moreover, to our knowledge, no studies have explored their potential benefits for socially vulnerable populations.

Using quantitative and qualitative data from two different rooftop gardens we explored the impacts of The Municipality of Barcelona's rooftop gardens program for people with disabilities. We particularly focused our evaluation on inclusion, health and wellbeing and the potential mechanisms that could explain these benefits.

CV

Isabelle Anguelovski (PhD) focuses her research on examining the extent to which urban plans and policy decisions contribute to more just, resilient, healthy, and sustainable cities, and how community groups in distressed neighborhoods contest the existence, creation, or exacerbation of environmental inequities as a result of urban (re)development processes and policies. She is currently an ICREA Research Professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona's Institute for Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA-UAB) and coordinator of the research group Healthy Cities and Environmental Justice at Medical Research Institute, Hospital del Mar (IMIM). Since 2016, she is the PI of a five-year ERC-funded project called GreenLULUs which examines green inequalities in 40 cities in Europe, the US, and Canada.

Margarita Triguero-Mas (PhD) is a transdisciplinary researcher focused on healthy and equitable urban planning. She addresses her work through approaches mainly derived from public health to better understand the health effects of air pollution, green and blue spaces, and meteorology, both in high and low-income countries. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the ICTA-UAB-IMIM research group Healthy Cities and Environmental Justice. Since 2018, she works on the project called GreenLULUS.
