The Spanish Society of Biological Psychiatry appoints Dr. Víctor Pérez as its President

The director of the Neuropsychiatry and Addictions Institute at Hospital del Mar and coordinator of the Mental Health Research Group at the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute will be the president of the organisation for the next four years. Up to now, he has been the Vice-president of the society.

Dr. Víctor Pérez, Director of the Institute of Neuropsychiatry and Addictions (INAD) at Hospital del Mar, will be the President of the Spanish Society of Biological Psychiatry (Sociedad Española de Psiquiatría Biológica; SEPB) for the next four years. He was elected at the society's Ordinary General Assembly, held virtually on 29 October.

Dr. Pérez takes the helm from Dr. Ana González Pinto, from Hospital Universitario in Álava. The objectives set by the new board include "Providing useful services to SEPB members and promoting research in biological psychiatry." The candidate's agenda includes "Fighting the stigma of psychiatry in today's society, raising the profile of medical psychiatry, and collaborating with other associations in the field of mental health, including family and patient organisations."

Dr. Víctor Pérez

He received his PhD in Psychiatry from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and is currently Director of the INAD as well as heading up the Mental Health Research Group at IMIM-Hospital del Mar. His healthcare and research work has focused on the field of neuroimaging, genetics and therapy related to schizophrenia, affective and personality disorders. He is also the National Coordinator of the European Alliance Against Depression and is a CIBERSAM researcher. He has published over 200 scientific articles.
