The Pan American Games begin: The Anti- Doping Lab of IMIM moves to Mexico.

Preparatory meeting in Mexico

From today and until the 30th of October the 16th Pan American Games are taking place in Guadalajara (Mexico), with the participation of 42 countries from the American continent.

During approximately one month, some twenty professionals of the Anti-Doping Control Laboratory of the IMIM (Hospital del Mar Research Institute) will be moving to Mexico to carry out the tests for anti-doping control at the games.

This project is a collaboration between the IMIM Foundation, the Mexican Consejo Estatal para el Fomento Deportivo y el Apoyo a la Juventud (State Council for the Promotion of Sports and Support to the Young) and the Comisión Nacional de Cultura Física y Deporte (National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE in Spanish).

This project involves setting up a “satellite laboratory” of the IMIM Anti-Doping Control Laboratory in the CONADE facilities in Mexico and obtaining the necessary accreditations to carry out the ISO 17025 and WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) tests, after obtaining the audits carried out last July.

Before the start of the games, a preparatory meeting was held with the laboratory team, which includes –besides Mexican and Catalan personnel – specialists from Vienna, Rome, La Habana and Madrid, all under the direction of the IMIM Laboratory.
