Biomedical research into heart diseases - Education

Master's degree in Heart failure

An online master's (www.masterinsuficienciacardiaca.com) offered by the Universidad Católica de San Antonio (www.ucam.edu) in collaboration with the Spanish Society of Cardiology (www.secardiologia.es), the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine (www.fesemi.org) and the Menarini Group (www.menarini.es).

The objective of the master's is to enable the students to acquire the knowledge, abilities and attitudes necessary for the practice of medicine relating to heart failure in a scientific, up-to-date, reliable and effective way. The educational content will be developed in line with the principles of evidence-based medicine and problem-based learning.

The Master's in Heart Failure has a duration of 18 months and constitutes 60 ECTS credits equivalent to 1,500 hours of distance learning to facilitate access to training independently of where one works, enabling greater flexibility of schedules and individual adaptation to learning styles. During the 2013 – 2014 academic year, the co-ordinator of the biomedical research group on heart diseases (Dr. Josep Comín Colet) is also the co-ordinator of this master's.

Master's degree in Cardiology

An online master's (www.mastercardiologia.com) offered by the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (www.umh.es) in collaboration with the Spanish Society of Cardiology (www.secardiologia.es) and the Menarini Group (www.menarini.es).

The objective of the master's is to enable the students to acquire the knowledge, abilities and attitudes necessary for the practice of medicine relating to cardiovascular pathology in a scientific, up-to-date, reliable and effective way. The educational content will be developed in line with the principles of evidence-based medicine and problem-based learning.

To achieve this objective, a teaching basis in cardiovascular disease will be created, constantly reviewed and updated. It will comprise comparable modules that enable a comprehensive review of cardiovascular pathology and which will serve to develop the abilities to understand and critically read any publication.

The Master's in Cardiology has a duration of 12 academic months and consists of 6 independent modules studied through a virtual learning environment. The structure is directed at the acquisition of the knowledge and abilities necessary for the solution of real problems and clinical cases. Each module consists of 5 topics and each of them constitutes 50 teaching hours, equivalent to 2 ECTS credits.

Dr. Josep Comín Colet has participated as a professor in the module on heart failure since the start of this postgraduate programme in 2011.
