Environmental Epidemiology: Study Methods and Application

Air pollution, water contamination, persistent organic pollutants, pesticides, metals, and radiofrequencies to name a few have all been linked to adverse health effects such as cancer, respiratory disease and reproductive effects.

Mark J Nieuwenhuijsen, Research Professor at CREAL, has co-edited a text book on environmental epidemioloy, Environmental Epidemiology: Study Methods and Application.  It is his second book on the topic after he edited previously Exposure Assessment in Occupational and Environmental .

The new book aims to develop an understanding and knowledge of environmental epidemiological methods, and the emphasis is on methodological principles and good practice. The book outlines the basic principles of epidemiology and environmental health, and describes in more detail special environmental epidemiological designs that are rarely described in other textbooks.

The book has been designed to be usable in intermediate level courses in teaching programmes in public health, epidemiology, and environmental sciences. Furthermore, it provides an introduction to environmental epidemiology for researchers of other disciplines such biostatisticians and geneticists, who want to develop an interest in the topic.

The book can be ordered from www.oup.com.
