José Antonio Pascual re-elected as President of the IPC Anti-doping Committee

José Antonio Pascual, member of the Bioanalysis and Analytical Services Research Group of the Neuropsychopharmacology Programme and deputy director of the Anti-doping Control Laboratory, has been re-elected President of the International Paralympic Committee’s Anti-doping Committee for the next 4 years. This re-election entails directing the IPC anti-doping policy from 2010 to 2014, a period which includes the celebration of the 2010 Winter Paralympic Games in Vancouver in two weeks’ time, as well as the 2012 London Games and the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC), which was founded in 1989, is a non-profit-making organisation made up of 165 National Paralympic Committees and four International Federations for specific disabilities. It is responsible for organising the summer and winter Paralympic Games and, in addition, is an International Federation of nine sports for which it supervises and coordinates the world championships as well as other competitions.

Dr. Pascual began collaborating on the IPC anti-doping policy in 1994. He was elected President of the then Anti-doping Sub-committee in 2003, and since 2006, following a change in the organisation of the IPC, has excelled in this position to which he has been re-elected.
