The European Respiratory Society (ERS) rewarded this year Esther Barreiro, Head of the Molecular mechanisms of lung cancer predisposition, with the Society's annual award for research in the field of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) 2008.
This is the eight time that the ERS gives this prize, sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim with 50.000 €, that aims to recognise the work of young European ERS members active in Pneumology research.
The prize has gone to Esther Barreiro for her study of the specific role of oxidative stress in the respiratory and peripheral muscle dysfunction of COPD patients and it has to be useful for continuing advancing in this field.
The European Respiratory Society (ERS) was founded in 1990. With almost 9000 members coming from over 100 different countries, its main mission is to alleviate suffering from respiratory diseases.
