Honorable Mention of the Dr. Carles Vallbona i Calbó Award for Dr. Bernat Bertran

The attending physician from the Neurology Department and researcher at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute has received the award at the Medical Profession Event of Vallés Oriental, organized by the Barcelona Medical Association.

The work 'Epidemiology of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in Catalonia: 2015-2020', from the Neurology Department of Hospital del Mar and led by Dr. Bernat Bertran, has won the honorable mention of the Dr. Carles Vallbona i Calbó Award from the  Col·legi de Metges de Barcelona. The award ceremony took place on September 18 during the Medical Profession Event of Vallés Oriental, organized by the Vallés Oriental Regional Board of the Barcelona Medical Association (COMB).

It is a retrospective observational study that, based on primary care diagnoses of six million people (representing 80% of the population of Catalonia) between 2015 and 2020, examines the incidence, prevalence, survival, geographical distribution, and risk factors of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This is one of the largest epidemiological studies on ALS conducted in Spain and Europe.

The Dr. Carles Vallbona i Calbó Award recognizes research carried out by doctors from the Vallés Oriental region in the areas of primary care and hospital care.
