The Research Institute of Hospital del Mar joins the European LeukemiaNet.

The admission was approved at the meeting of the organization held on April 9th in Mannheim, Germany.

The Research Institute of the Hospital del Mar is one of the five new members of the European Leukemia Net, an international network of excellence to promote cooperative research in different types of leukemias. Its admission was approved at the meeting of the organization held on April 9th in Mannheim, Germany. Dr. Blanca Espinet, coordinator of the Translational Research Group in Hematological Neoplasms and head of the Molecular Cytogenetics section of the Pathological Anatomy Service of Hospital del Mar, is the principal investigator representative of the center.

Dr. Espinet is part of the management committee of the network as a representative member of the cytogenetics working group, focused on connecting different researchers and coordinating European projects in the field of cytogenetics of hematological neoplasms. She is also a member of the management of the working group on chronic lymphocytic leukemia, called the European Research Initiative on CLL (ERIC). The ERIC group conducts cooperative studies in this pathology and organizes continuing education courses. It also develops quality controls for different laboratory techniques and ensures good practices and the drafting of clinical guidelines. Within this framework, Dr. Espinet has been part of ten cooperative publications and is the PI of an active international project on genomic complexity in patients treated with targeted drugs.

The European LeukemiaNet

Formed by more than 200 research centers from around fifty countries, it brings together over a thousand researchers and clinical professionals. It works to integrate more than 120 research groups on leukemias with their interdisciplinary partners and industry to advance towards the cure of these diseases.
