PROMES-U Study Initiated to Promote Student Mental Health

The research project PROMES-U has been launched with the goal of enhancing the mental health of university students through the exploration of factors influencing the onset of mental health issues. Additionally, the project aims to implement and evaluate online interventions for promoting mental well-being and preventing problems related to depression and anxiety. The study is led by the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute (IMIM) and involves participation from UPF, the University of the Balearic Islands, Jaume I University of Castellón, Miguel Hernández University of Elche, and the University of Zaragoza.

"With this study, we aim to assess the mental health of students, and one of the motivations is to understand how the pandemic situation has affected them in recent years. We continue in the line of the UniverSal project, which we completed in 2019," explains Jordi Alonso, project coordinator, Professor of Public Health at UPF, and director of the Epidemiology and Public Health Program at IMIM.

The study involves completing two online mental health questionnaires-one now and the second one next year. Upon completing each questionnaire, participants will receive a personalized report detailing their mental health status, advice for improvement, and information about online and in-person resources available for seeking assistance if needed.

At the end of the first questionnaire, participants will be asked if they would like to join a smaller group to undergo the Mobile Assessment, a more intensive 15-day evaluation. Those who achieve a participation rate equal to or greater than 80% in this assessment will receive a reward of 30 euros.

In the second year of the study, an online intervention will be conducted for participants at risk of experiencing depression and/or anxiety who wish to enhance their mental well-being.

Students can take part in the study through the study's website or Instagram page (@estudio_promes_u), or by using QR codes located in various faculties.
