Dr. Marta Pascual receives the Professional Excellence Award from the Barcelona College of Doctors

The head of the Colon and Rectal Surgery Unit in the Surgery Department at Hospital del Mar and a researcher in the Cancer Research Programme at the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute received this professional accolade on 28 November.

Dr. Marta Pascual, head of the Colon and Rectal Surgery Unit in the Surgery Service at Hospital del Mar and a researcher in the Cancer Research Programme at the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute, was one of the people honoured through the Official College of Doctors of Barcelona (Col·legi Oficial de Metges de Barcelona; COMB) Professional Excellence Award. These awards, which have been presented since 2004, recognise doctors who are outstanding in terms of their excellence, professional career, honesty, commitment, selflessness and integrity.

Each year, the COMB Professional Excellence Awards recognise 42 professionals from different fields within hospital medicine, primary care, public health, mental health, social and healthcare, biomedical research, medical education and the medical humanities. They are also awarded to four multidisciplinary care teams that stand out for their professional performance and teamwork.

Dr. Pascual received the award from Dr. Elvira Obispo, vice-president of the COMB and a consultant in the Anaesthesiology Department at Hospital del Mar. The awards ceremony was held in Auditorio Axa in Barcelona.

She graduated from the University of Navarra in 1999, and undertook her residency at Hospital del Mar between 2000 and 2005. In 2006, she obtained a basic research grant at the IMIM. In 2007 she became a consultant in the Colon and Rectal Surgery Unit, which she has headed up since 2018.

She completed her training in this field at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, in the United States, under the supervision of Dr. Heidy Nelson. During this period she also wrote her doctoral thesis. To date, she has published more than sixty articles on colon and rectal surgery.
